Betty Gilman

Betty Gilman was born in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and has lived most of her life in New York City. At age 16 she began to study painting with Victor d’Amico and Edward Glannon at Fieldston, Later she joined the Art Education classes of Josef Pressor.She continued her art education studying with Ephyr Slobodkina, a Founding member of the American Abstract Group. She had been painting at the time and became interested in 3D work which launched her career as a sculptor. She started with Sebastiano Mineo ad became so taken with sculpture that she built and arranged her own studio in Connecticut. She also rented studio space from James Youngman at Artists Studio Center in New York City.

Betty is affiliated with the National Association of Women Artists, Artists Craftsmen of New York, The Essex Art Association, Ward Nasse Gallery, Shoreline Alliance of the Arts and many others.
